www.espn.com Top 14 Free Agents

SamuelFree agent: CB Asante Samuel
Best fit: Miami Dolphins
Here's why: Bill Parcells could make a big splash by stealing one of the AFC East's best players. Miami desperately needs a veteran presence in its secondary, and acquiring Samuel, who has been part of so many successful seasons in New England, could be infectious in the locker room of a team that managed to win just one game a season ago. Samuel obviously will have many teams after his services, but Miami should get in the hunt for a difference-maker at cornerback to lead their struggling secondary.

FanecaFree agent: G Alan Faneca
Best fit: New York Jets
Here's why: LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson and C Nick Mangold are both very talented young players, but inconsistent. Putting Faneca between these two former first-round picks would go a long way toward shoring up both the Jets' run and passing attack. Left guard and right tackle are gaping holes in the Jets' line and addressing these needs through the draft may not be particularly prudent due to the inexperience of Ferguson and Mangold. New York never recovered from the loss of Pete Kendall at left guard.

BerrianFree agent: WR Bernard Berrian
Best fit: Oakland Raiders
Here's why: The Raiders' receiving corps is mediocre at best and it isn't a secret that Al Davis loves to see his quarterback throw the ball deep downfield. Berrian has some Cliff Branch-like qualities with his elite deep speed and with JaMarcus Russell's amazing arm strength, this could be an excellent fit. Russell absolutely needs a receiving threat to lean on as he matures, and while Berrian is not an elite wideout, he is clearly an upgrade to what the Raiders played with at the position in 2007.

HackettFree agent: WR D.J. Hackett
Best fit: Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Here's why: The Buccaneers do not have a lot of pressing needs to address in free agency, but wide receiver is clearly one of them. Tampa Bay has a surplus of cap room and should be able to compete for the services of Hackett or any of the other top wide receivers in this year's free agency class. If Hackett can just stay healthy he has an excellent chance to develop into an outstanding complement to Joey Galloway. When he is on the field, all Hackett does is produce.

AdamsFree agent: OT Flozell Adams
Best fit: Miami Dolphins
Here's why: Obviously Parcells and Tony Sparano are very familiar with Adams and adding an experienced left tackle from a winning organization could have a positive impact in the locker room. The Dolphins' offensive line isn't that far away and Adams would allow Miami to put Vernon Carey at right tackle. This would give the Dolphins two very solid bookends to team with second-year C Samson Satele to keep their quarterback -- whoever that may be -- upright and aid in the running game. This move makes a lot of sense, and with all the roster cuts Parcells has made, the Dolphins should have the cap room to make a splash. Adams has been to four of the past five Pro Bowls.

BriggsFree agent: LB Lance Briggs
Best fit: Buffalo Bills
Here's why: Briggs is only 27 years old and in the prime of his productive career. Briggs didn't receive as much of the limelight as Brian Urlacher in Chicago, but with the Bills, he would very quickly establish himself as this defense's top dog, something that Buffalo needs very badly. Of course, Dick Jauron is familiar with what Briggs brings to the table from their time together with the Bears, and with Paul Posluszny returning from injury, the Bills could all of a sudden have a very formidable group of linebackers.

TurnerFree agent: RB Michael Turner
Best fit: Chicago Bears
Here's why: If the Bears are willing to admit that the Cedric Benson project was a complete failure, Turner would be an excellent signing. Turner played his college ball at nearby Northern Illinois and is a rare free agent running back who has experience, but also do not have a lot of mileage on his body. The Bears need a lot of help on offense, but Turner would be an excellent start.

AndersonFree agent: QB Derek Anderson
Best fit: Minnesota Vikings
Here's why: The Vikings have plenty of offseason needs, but adding a quarterback who can consistently make plays would alleviate some of the other issues. With Adrian Peterson in the fold, the Vikings will always be a run-first offense. That suits Anderson extremely well. While he was very impressive last season and has a big arm, Anderson is a glorified caretaker behind center. His greatest strength is protecting the football. Minnesota needs a good decision-maker who can make all the throws, and that's exactly what Anderson does. Tarvaris Jackson has only 16 career starts, but his accuracy and decision making is holding the Vikings back. The Browns tendered Anderson, meaning it would cost a first- and third-round pick for someone to sign him so it is unlikely he moves, but he's someone who could immediately help Minnesota.

SmithFree agent: DE Justin Smith
Best fit: Philadelphia Eagles
Here's why: With edge pass-rusher Trent Cole on the right side demanding a ton of attention from opposing pass protection schemes, Smith could do very well in a complementary role on the strong side, which best suits his abilities. The Eagles need an end to pair with Cole's and Smith's motors, and Smith's all-around game should suit Jim Johnson's scheme very well.

StallworthFree agent: WR Donte' Stallworth
Best fit: Tennessee Titans
Here's why: The former University of Tennessee Volunteer floundered a bit in New England, but he could be a difference-maker for the Titans. Tennessee doesn't have anyone who can get deep and consistently stretch the field, and that is Stallworth's specialty. The Titans looked at Stallworth a year ago and would surely attack him more aggressively this offseason. Tennessee has a lot of money they can spend and absolutely must upgrade Vince Young's weapons.

MossFree agent: WR Randy Moss
Best fit: New England Patriots
Here's why: This is obvious. Moss caught a record 23 touchdowns in his first season in a Patriots uniform and helped lead the team to a remarkable 18-0 record before losing in the Super Bowl. Although every quarterback in the league would love to throw to this fantastic wide receiver, there isn't a better fit in the world than Tom Brady throwing to Moss.

BoleyFree agent: LB Michael Boley
Best fit: New York Giants
The Super Bowl champions do not need much, but New York will likely lose Kawika Mitchell and it does have some money to spend in free agency. Boley, while unlikely to leave Atlanta as a restricted free agent, is a big-time playmaker and extremely versatile -- exactly the kind of player that defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo can use to the best of his ability. Adding Boley to his already outstanding defense would make a very good group much better.

WilsonFree agent: S Gibril Wilson
Best fit: Philadelphia Eagles
Here's why: Ken Hamlin was franchised by the Cowboys, which will put Wilson's services at a premium -- especially with a really weak safety draft on the horizon. Spagnuolo is a Jim Johnson prodigy and runs an extremely similar defense to what the Eagles play. Philadelphia could use a safety of Wilson's caliber in its thin secondary, and stealing an important player from a divisional rival would pay double dividends.

JonesFree agent: RB Julius Jones
Best fit: Chicago Bears
Here's why: Jones views himself as a starting NFL running back, but it is very questionable if he is truly among the best 32 running backs right now. With a deep running back draft, Jones could be disappointed with the interest he receives once free agency opens. He hasn't proven to be a workhorse or a powerful inside runner. Teams like Seattle and Houston could really use a bell cow to carry the rock, but we are not convinced that Jones is that player. For those reasons, put Jones into the mix in Chicago with Benson and let those two -- among others -- battle it out for carries like Julius' brother, Thomas, did two years ago.

INDIANAPOLIS -- The NFL just completed its final scouting combine at the RCA Dome, with the event moving across the street next year to the Lucas Oil Stadium. There are rumblings the NFL might sell suites so that interested fans can attend the workouts.
Next year's prospects can only hope the fast track of the RCA Dome carries over to the combine's new home. Speed was definitely the story of this year's combine.
Twenty-two prospects, including 13 defensive backs, ran sub-4.4 40s, including a 4.24 by East Carolina running back Chris Johnson. That total is an increase from the 19 sub-4.4s recorded a year ago. In all, 54 players in this combine ran sub-4.5s.
All this speed gave a track-meet feel to the combine. Players are serious about their training for the event, and teams were pleased with the number of players who worked out.
Aside from seeing fast athletes, what else did we learn at the combine?
1. Running backs, thanks to underclassmen, exceeded expectations.
Darren McFadden of Arkansas was clearly the underclassman star after running a 4.33 40, but all seven underclassmen backs ran 4.48 40s or better.
Rashard Mendenhall of Illinois probably moved ahead of Jonathan Stewart of Oregon by running a 4.45 40 and doing great in the drills. Stewart was the "slowest" of the young backs, but he ran 4.48, had the best vertical jump of the backs (36½ inches) and was the third-strongest back with 28 reps at 225 pounds.
Jamaal Charles of Texas helped himself by running a 4.38, and Felix Jones of Arkansas ran a 4.47. Ray Rice of Rutgers did a 4.44, as did Steve Slaton of West Virginia. Backs with speed break big plays, and these are all proven college backs with breakaway speed.
Johnson, the only senior in the top eight, ran the best combine time of any athlete with that 4.24.
2. Very little sorted itself out at quarterback.
It probably didn't help that the consensus No. 1 quarterback, Matt Ryan of Boston College, decided to wait until his school's pro day to do his throwing. Andre' Woodson of Kentucky also was sidelined because of a hamstring injury suffered a couple of weeks ago.
Chad Henne of Michigan helped himself with a good throwing day Sunday, while Joe Flacco of Delaware continued to show the strongest arm in the draft, nudging even closer to first-round status.
Colt Brennan of Hawaii didn't run, but he was the most accurate thrower Sunday. He completed all 18 of his passes, confirming he is a sharpshooter despite a strange, side arm-type release.
Josh Johnson of San Diego wowed everyone with his athletic skills, being the fastest quarterback in the draft with a 4.55 40 and doing a quarterback-best 33½-inch vertical jump. Brian Brohm of Louisville did just enough to retain his first-round rating.
3. This draft will be loaded with great defensive athletes.
Virginia defensive end Chris Long was the smoothest of the defensive linemen, running his drills effortlessly and posting an impressive 4.75 40. No doubt his father, Howie Long, is proud.
Ohio State defensive end Vernon Gholston put his stock in the top-five category by running a 4.67 and lifting the 225-pound weights 37 times. In other words, he's as fast as a linebacker and as strong as an offensive lineman, matching the weight-lifting performance of Michigan offensive tackle Jake Long.
Antonio Cromartie's cousin, Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, was the star of the secondary, running a 4.33 and showing footwork few cornerbacks have shown in years.
Safety Josh Barrett of Arizona State was the big winner at strong safety by running a 4.35 despite his being a muscular 223 pounds. Top cornerbacks Mike Jenkins of South Florida and Leodis McKelvin of Troy locked up first-round ratings with sub-4.4 40s.
4. Size and speed highlight the wide receiver position.
Devin Thomas of Michigan State helped himself the most by running the sixth-fastest time among receivers, at 4.4. He has good size at 6-1 7/8 and 216 pounds.
James Hardy of Indiana (a 4.47 40 despite being 6-5 and 217 pounds) made a push to challenge to be the No. 1 receiver -- but it doesn't appear that a receiver will go in the top 10 of the draft.
DeSean Jackson of Cal, once considered the top receiver in this class, ran the fastest 40 among the wideouts at 4.35, but he's just 5-9, 169 pounds. That's fairly light to survive as a No. 1 receiver in the NFL.
Limas Sweed of Texas helped himself with a 4.46 40. Mario Manningham of Michigan looked smooth in the pass-catching drills, but he might have dropped into the second round after running a 4.59.
5. Offensive tackle may be the strongest position, but we learned the least about them.
First-round candidates Sam Baker of USC, Ryan Clady of Boise State and Anthony Collins of Kansas didn't work out. With Clady and Collins being underclassmen, teams will have to flock to their schools for workouts.
Jake Long clearly is the star of the position and potentially the No. 1 pick in the draft. He checked in at 6-7, 313 pounds, ran a 5.17 40 and was the strongest lineman with 37 reps at 225 pounds.
Also impressive were Vanderbilt tackle Chris Wiliams (5.07 40 at 6-6, 315 pounds), Carl Nicks of Nebraska (5.18 40 at 6-4 7/8, 341 pounds) and Gosder Cherilus of Boston College (5.21 at 6-6 3/8, 314 pounds).
Jeff Otah of Pitt had the slowest time among the offensive linemen at 5.56 but he's just eight weeks removed from a high ankle sprain and started re-training only two weeks ago. He's considered a first-round prospect.

THE TOP 10 RISERS FROM THE NFL DRAFT COMBINE
WHO HELPED THEMSELVES AT THE COMBINE
10. Jake Long, Michigan
Position: OT
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: First
The top offensive lineman in this year's class solidified a top 5-10 selection. He came in at 6-7 and 313 pounds, and did a combine best (thus far) 37 reps @ 225 lbs. He ran a 5.17 and 5.27.
9. Justin King, Penn State
Position: CB
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Ninth
This athletic junior corner had the type of workout an underclassman must produce to be an early draft selection. He ran a low 4.33 time, looked sharp in the agility drills and did 14 repetitions of 225 pounds.
8. Vernon Gholston, Ohio State
Position: DE
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Third
Gholston had one of the strongest showings at the combine. He ran an outstanding 4.67 time at 266 lbs. He also tied Jake Long with 37 reps for the most reps at the event. He added a good 35.5" vertical leap, which probably guarantees him a top-eight selection.
7. Trevor Laws, Notre Dame
Position: DT
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: 10th
Explosive tackle continued his terrific postseason following a strong week at the Senior Bowl. He ran 5.08 and 5.09 times and did 35 reps in the lifting. He performed very well in the agility drills and is the one shining light in a dismal ND football season.
6. Devin Thomas, Michigan State
Position: WR
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: 11th
This underclassman had a monster workout. He ran two low 4.3 times - including a 4.32 sprint. He is an explosive receiver at almost 6-2 and 215 pounds. On top of that, he also has kickoff return skills.
5. Dexter Jackson, Appalachian State
Position: WR
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Unranked
This small-college standout ran an impressive 4.27 – hand-held, not electronic. He gets to top speed quickly, and has the hands to make big plays.
4. Dustin Keller, Purdue
Position: TE
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Seventh
Keller is an athletic, smaller tight end who we had on our top 100 board prior to the Combine. He had a huge workout – likely the most impressive showing on Day 1. He ran 4.53 and 4.54 times in the 40. He had an exceptional 38" vertical leap with a solid 26 reps @ 225 lbs. Keller displayed sure hands and the ability to adjust to the ball. Despite already being in our top 100, he could move up further following the Combine.
3. Chris Johnson, East Carolina
Position: RB
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Seventh
This extremely quick all-purpose back ran the fastest sprint at the NFL Combine. He ran a blazing 4.24 time with a 35-inch vertical leap and a 10'10" broad jump. He also looked good in the agility and pass catching drills, which may elevate him to a top-50 ranking. He ranks behind a few juniors at the position, but he is the highest-rated senior tailback.
2. Antoine Cason, Arizona
Position: CB
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Fourth
Cason may have been the senior prospect with the most to prove at this event. There were questions about his speed prior to the combine, but he answered his critics. Cason had a strong overall workout, including a 4.49 sprint time. He did 20 reps in the bench press, posted a 35.5-inch vertical leap and a 10'8" broad jump. That effort probably guarantees him a first-round grade.
1. Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, Tennessee State
Position: CB
Coyle Position Ranking Before Combine: Sixth
The rising star of the postseason had another big performance on the heels of a terrific Senior Bowl week. He continued his stellar postseason with a blazing 4.33 time, 17 reps in the lifting and a fine 38.5-inch vertical leap. His workout at the Combine could push him into the first round.

All the KING'S New Men Route Memphis 109-89

The Cleveland Cavs destroyed the Memphis Grizzlies last night 109-89. watching the game I could feel an energy that Cleveland hasn't had at the Q in a long time. It carried over to the new players as they were a success. The best part about the whole night is that the Cavs still have some great players that are still injured. They will soon be very deep. I think they are tougher.... Ben Wallace. They can shoot a lot better..... Wally Szczerbiak. They can play inside and out.... Joe Smith and some pick and roll.... Delante West.
Yes, it was Memphis, but the old Cavs would of had to fight all the way to the end. The new Cavs put this game away early. I think they will challenge Detroit and Boston for the Eastern Conference title. If they stay healthy! What are your thoughts on the new-look Cavs?

Source: http://espn.com
CLEVELAND -- As he stripped off his ice bags and got ready to head for the showers, Wally Szczerbiak stuck his head in Kaniel Dickens' locker and asked him where the dirty socks go. Dickens, a D-League call-up in his third day as a Cavalier, informed him of the protocol.
Such is life around the remade Cavs these days; everything seems new. Which made Sunday seem like a giant first date at Quicken Loans Arena, where the crowd and the players themselves were eager to see just how the four imports from the club's deadline-day blockbuster would fit.
The short-term answer was positive as the Cavs smashed the Grizzlies 109-89. But it was hardly a fair litmus test against such a downtrodden opponent.
Nonetheless, there were some hints of how the rebuilt Cavs may look when all the dust settles from the trade that replaced half their active roster.
In the evening's spotlight stood Ben Wallace, the centerpiece of the trade as far as the Cavs are concerned. He started at power forward, the beginning of the Cavs' experiment to play him in what they hope will be a super-charged frontcourt between LeBron James and Zydrunas Ilgauskas.
The results on the first night were mixed. There was no questioning Wallace's energy; on the Cavs' first defensive possession he made a steal that kick-started a fast break. Later he swatted away a Memphis pass that led to an alley-oop from the Cavs' new starting point guard, Delonte West, to James.
In the fourth quarter Wallace got a standing ovation when he forced a rare five-second call after a basket when he denied the inbounds pass with the Cavs up by 17 points. He also had five dunks and tied his season high with 12 points; he found space when James and Ilgauskas were being double-teamed.
Again, that is part of the Cavs' grand plan to integrate him and make him more productive than he was with the Bulls. The idea goes that if opponents leave James (25 points, 11 assists vs. Memphis) or Ilgauskas (22 points, 13 rebounds) in one-on-one situations, then the Cavs will burn the defense. But if Wallace's man leaves him to double-team, Big Ben just might turn into a high-percentage shooting weapon.
"The crowd was great, we didn't get booed tonight, so that was a good feeling for me," Wallace said, making a reference to some unhappy days in Chicago when the fans targeted him with their frustration over a disappointing season.
This after he said earlier about his stay in Chicago: "If someone wants to throw me under the bus, that's fine. I've been there before, I know what it smells like."
"He's rejuvenated," James said after the game, though such a statement is still wildly premature.
There also were signs of the possibly tough adjustment Wallace is going to be asked to make. Spending time guarding Hakim Warrick on the perimeter instead of Kwame Brown or Darko Milicic inside, Wallace often was pulled far from the hoop. It caused him to be out of position when it came to defending the basket on help defense at times. Though he got 10 rebounds, he missed some that came his way, too, due to getting late position.
But that is nitpicking to some degree. Wallace's effort helped the Cavs dominate as that aforementioned frontline combined for 59 points and 30 rebounds.
And that doesn't count Joe Smith (14 points, six rebounds), who came off the bench and kept getting open shots off feeds from James.
Meanwhile, Anderson Varejao, sidelined a month with a sprained ankle, is due back this week to give the Cavs' frontline even more depth.
"Our interior is stronger than ever right now," James said. "Rebounding has always been our strength, but now it is even better."
Szczerbiak hit a pair of 3-pointers on his way to 10 points. West had the roughest start of the newbies, making just 2-of-12 shots, but he had six assists and three steals. Those six assists represented previous point guard Larry Hughes' season high; West showed signs he may be a better fit at point than Hughes playing out of position.
So much more data is needed, though, to determine whether this midstream makeover will indeed work for the Cavs. Yet the first night was quite a success and had many already feeling some excitement.
"That might have been the first time in a long time I got chills when I took the court," Smith said. "That's a good feeling."

Tennessee is Now Number 1 by Defeating Memphis

That's right Tennessee took it right at Memphis for 40 minutes of basketball. It was a knock-down, drag-out fight to the finish with Tennessee nailing their free-throws and taking the win 66-62. Both teams played their hearts out. I would have to say it was one of the best college basketball games I have seen in a long time. This was a true rivalry game. Duke v's Carolina had nothing on this game tonight.

Tyler Smith hit a turnaround jumper in the lane with 26.5 seconds left and No. 2 Tennessee knocked off the nation's last unbeaten team, edging top-ranked Memphis 66-62 on Saturday night.
Tennessee (25-2) won on a night when star guard Chris Lofton scored only 7 points, beating the Tigers with a dominating performance on the boards. Lofton did finish it off, though, hitting a couple of free throws with 4.5 seconds to go after Memphis intentionally missed at the line.
Memphis (26-1) lost at home for the first time since Jan. 2, 2006, ending the nation's longest home winning streak at 47 games.
"We've just got to learn from it. We lost," Robert Dozier said. "They just out-toughed us. They get every loose ball, every offensive rebound. They just outplayed us."
The Tigers had hoped to use this game to show their lofty record was proof they were the nation's best team, not the beneficiaries of playing in an unheralded league, Conference USA.
And, of course, they wanted to stay on track to become the first team since Indiana in 1976 to make it all the way through the season with a perfect record.
But the Hoosiers can rest easy. At the end, Tennessee's players walked off the court in triumph, holding up the name across the front of their orange jerseys to taunt the stunned crowd. The small group of Vols fans who actually got in the building hung around to chant "We're No. 1! We're No. 1!"
Tennessee surely will be No. 1 when the next poll comes out -- for the first time in school history.
Just as flamboyant coach Bruce Pearl predicted at a pep rally before the game, then again at halftime.
"I wanted to make sure our guys knew we were playing for something," Pearl said. "I don't know if we're the best team in the country. I knew we were 40 minutes away from being No. 1."
Smith scored 16 points to lead the Vols, while Wayne Chism and J.P. Prince added 13 apiece. But Tennessee did its best work on the boards, overpowering the Tigers with a season-high 50 rebounds. Memphis had 34.
"Rocky Top, you'll always be, home sweet home to me," they sang, having the arena to themselves after the Memphis faithful headed out onto Beale Street to drown their sorrows. "Good ol' Rocky Top, Rocky Top Tennessee."
The Tigers were up when Smith took a pass from Lofton, backed in and hit the jumper for a 62-61 lead. Antonio Anderson missed badly for Memphis at the other end, and the Tigers were forced to foul.
"I really don't even remember," Smith said. "I just remember the shot going in."
Prince hit a pair of free throws to make it a three-point game, and Tennessee wisely fouled before Memphis could go for a tying 3. Instead, Derrick Rose made the first attempt in a 1-and-1, but had to miss the second intentionally, in hopes the Tigers could grab the rebound.
No way. Tennessee came down with it and Lofton was fouled. He only went 2-of-11 from the field, but calmly sank the two foul shots that finished off the Tigers' perfect record.
While Rose was trying to miss, Memphis clanked plenty of foul shots it was trying to make. The Tigers, one of the nation's worst free throw-shooting teams, lived up to their ranking by making just 8-of-17 at the line.
Rose led Memphis with 23 points, but Chris Douglas-Roberts was the only other player in double figures with 14 points.
The Tigers looked in good shape when Douglas-Roberts scored on a layup with 2:28 left, putting his team up 61-58.
Then Smith went to work. He answered with a drive of his own, pulling the Vols to 61-60, then hit the game winner -- but only after Memphis squandered three chances on one possession to extend the margin.
Doneal Mack missed a 3, but the Tigers grabbed a long rebound. Rose missed, and Memphis chased it down again. Finally, after playing without the ball for some 90 seconds, the Vols finally grabbed it away off an attempt by Dozier that banged off the front of the rim.
A couple of hours before tipoff, flamboyant Tennessee coach Bruce Pearl held a pep rally with the Volunteer faithful at a sports restaurant near the FedExForum. He made a bold promise: "All I can tell you is we're 40 minutes away from being No. 1."
Then his team proved him right.

Cavs get Ben Wallace and more.... Is this enough for Lebron?

The Cleveland Cavs made a trade at the last minute for Ben Wallace, Wally Szczerbiak, Joe Smith, and Delonte West. They gave up Larry Hughes, Drew Gooden, Shannon Brown, Cedric Simmons, Ira Newble, and Donyell Marshall. I am not sure what to think yet. I was one of the Cleveland fans saying they need to make a move and to be honest I really don't know if this is the move that will get them over the top. Lebron can't say that Danny Ferry didn't try to give him players. I think the sleeper is going to be Joe Smith. I really think he can do well playing alongside Lebron James. I think that Ben Wallace could get back to form playing at his natural position of power foward and beside big "Z". I just don't know if they will have enough scoring. What do you think?

LeBron James Dunk On Dirk Nowitzki - 2008 All Star

This would of been a 50!!!

NBA All-Star Game MVP: Lebron James

Lebron James was the NBA All-Star game MVP, but will be the league MVP? I think he is right now, but if Danny Ferry doesn't get him any help by Thursday's trading deadline, he will not only lose the MVP, but also lose confidence in Cleveland. We as Cleveland fans will lose him just like we are going to lose C.C. Sabathia and possibly Derick Anderson.
Everyone seems to be making moves to get better for the long haul, but the Cavs. I don't want to hear that danny Ferry is strapped with contracts. Bullshit! He is the one that made the dumb signings, so he better be the one to get them out of it. Lebron needs some credit for trying to stay calm about wanting help, and Cleveland not making any moves yet.
They need some help, or am I the only one that thinks this? Just today, the Nets offered Vince Carter for Jermain O'Neal. I keep looking for Cleveland to show up next with a move, but I doubt it will happen. All of you Ohio sports fans give some feedback here, let me know what you think.

The Winner and Still Champ, Kelly "the ghost" Pavlik

All I can say is wow! This was a tremendous fight. I am just so glad that Pavlik won by a unanimous decision. I thought it could go either way, but Pavlik controlled the fight from start to finish. Was worth the money to watch. Youngstown, Ohio baby!! Ohio!!!
This was the first time in Pavlik's last 10 fights that he did not knock his opponent out. He threw a lot more punches this time and also landed more jabs. Kelly threw 846 punches to Taylor's 456. The only time either one came close to a knockout was when Pavlik drilled Taylor in the 11th, but Taylor hung on to Pavlik until the round ended.
Kelly Pavlik goes to 33-0 with 29 knockouts and Jermain Taylor falls to 27-2.
What is next for Jermain Taylor? I know he says he wants to pursue super middleweight. I would say retirement. What do you think?

Pavlik V'S Taylor 2: The Rematch!

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Kelly "The Ghost" Pavlik. Not just because he beat the hell out of Jermain Taylor last September, but becasue he is from Youngstown, Ohio. I live about 50 miles south of Youngstown and have been there many times in my life. He is just a plain white boy from a hard-working-class town in Ohio. Kelly Pavlik is a fighter from every aspect of the word.

This fight tonight is huge for boxing. Not just Pavlik or Taylor, but the entire boxing community. There hasn't been this much excitement surrounding a pay-per-view fight in quite some time. With the way MMA is taking the world by storm, boxing needs this fight and needs it to be good. I need it to be good. I want to be excited about boxing again. I never used to miss a Mike Tyson fight, but since that excitement has left the sport, so have I and many others. If it wasn't for Pavlik being an Ohio fighter, I probably still wouldn't be an avid fan.

Kelly Pavlik needs to do what he did in the first fight and hunt Taylor, stalk him, corner him. Throw his one, two combinations. Obviously, use his deadly right hand, but I think he will need to throw more upercuts and body shots this fight because I am sure Jermain Taylor will be waiting on the jabs and right hand. He wasn't last fight and paid for it. He needs to keep Taylor back on his heels and not taunt him and put his guard down. Kelly did that last fight and went to the canvas. If he does that again tonight, Taylor will finish him off this time.

Jermain Taylor needs to take the fight to Pavlik and respect Kelly's right hand and jabs. Stay on his toes, attack Pavlik and make him box. Taylor can't afford to let Pavlik back him into the ropes all night long, he needs to make Pavlik stay in the middle of the ring and box, not fight, but box.

In the end, it doesn't matter what Taylor does because the Ghost will beat him down again in 10. I hope for all of us boxing fans that this fight lives up to the hype. I watched the September fight simply because it was a hometown boy from just up the road, but I was amazed to see a great fight. This time I will watch becasue I want to see a good fight and I want to see the Ghost continue to put Ohio on the map for boxing and not football. Besides, Pavlik does have some awesome trunks. (Ohio State football colors - looks like the helmet)

Daytona 500 Line-Ups Set

The 2008 Daytona 500 starting grid is up and ready for the race on Sunday. The Hendrick cars seem to be in good shape to get a win, but the surprise seems to be Toyota. I honestly think Dale Earnhardt Jr. is going to win, but everyone seems to be forgetting about Tony Stewart. He could sneek up and win it as well as Jimmie Johnson and Jeff Gordan. Who do you think will win the SuperBowl of racing?

Kelvin Sampson, Indiana University Basketball Coach, is in Trouble, Again!

The NCAA released a report Wednesday that stated that Coach Sampson had committed five major NCAA violations. He and his assistants provided false and misleading information to Indiana University officials and NCAA officials. Most of the violations deal with phone calls made to recruits. To read the violations click here.

Indiana has until May 8th to write a written response and a hearing will be held on June 14 in Seattle. As of now, Kelvin Sampson's status as head coach is in limbo. Most don't think he'll last the rest of the year, while others believe it will be game-to-game. He got a taste of the boos during Wednesday night's game versus Wisconson from the 17,320 fans.

This will also affect IU's athletic director, Rick Greenspan, who hired Sampson knowing that he was bringing a lot of baggage with him. According to ESPN's Pat Forde (asshole) Greenspan has 3 choices.

1. FIRE SAMPSON NOW

2. BAN INDIANA FROM THE POST SEASON

3. NOTHING! WAIT IT OUT

Oh, guess who is sitting out in the wings laughing his butt off right now? That's right people, it is Bobby Knight. Don't think IU officials won't be mumbling his name to bring the program back to respectability and then retire for good. Name the court after him. Whatever it takes, but they should bring him back. Or does it seem funny that Knight resigned all of a sudden and then this happens? Remember he has said "never say never!"

Wow! I watched the entire hearing on ESPN and still have no idea who is lying more Roger Clemons or Brian McNamee. At times, I thought Roger was looking good, innocent, and felt sorry for him, then I thought he was obviously covering his own butt. Especially the nanny situation. Yes, he did help them out by finding her, but anyone can figure out why he wanted to get to her first. He wanted to see what she was going to say. That still doesn't sit too well with me right now and I love Clemons. I don't want his image to become tainted.
McNamee on the other hand is lying through his teeth, but I don't think he was made to lie about Clemons or anyone else. His statements about Clemons seem to be true and he has no problem telling them. It seems he was lying at first to protect Clemons, then Roger went public with a tape of a phone conversation and that pissed McNamee off, so he decided to cooperate with federal officials. By lying through his teeth, I mean that he is just a plain liar. His history proves that he is a liar.
Now, if this would go to court, there is no way that McNamee would be a crediable witness. Clemons would not be found guilty by a jury of his peers. I think Clemons struggled to wheezle his way out of early questions and looked bad doing it. He even threw his wife under the bus for using HGH. Later in the day he seemed to change his story about whether or not he was at Canseco's house, not the party, but his house.
The big key in this whole trial was Andy Pettite's statement that Roger Clemons did talk to him about using HGH. His wife also left a statement about Clemons talking about HGH. The only problem with this is that he was not at today's hearing. He is considered a very honest man, but he was given a pass and did not have to show up today and physically shove the knife in Clemon's back. Notice, I said knife, not needle.
Now, it will be up to us, the public. What do we believe? I think that he has used it before, but I still think he is the best pitcher ever in MLB. I would still place him in the Hall of Fame on the first ballot. Somewhere, Barry Bonds is sitting around with a tremendous smile on his face.

Good Call, Bad Call!

Last night was full of very close games. Two were decided by referees whistles. The first involved the Georgetown, Villinova game. The game was tied and Nova missed a shot, Georgetown got the rebound and began to dribble down the sidelines when the player was bumped and a foul was called with 0.1 seconds remaining. The Hoya player went on to make both shots and win the game. Why? The player was 75 feet away from the basket and he was nudged, not even hard enough to knock him out of bounds. The game was at Georgetown! maybe some homecooking? I say BAD CALL .
The second came during the Tennessee, Rutgers women's basketball game. Tennessee was trailing by one point with seconds remaining and missed the shot, a Lady Vol got the rebound, missed it and another Lady Vol grabbed it and was Horsecollard to the ground. Time seemed to have run out, but the shot clock had 0.2 on it. The Tennessee player knocked down two foul shots and that was it for the Scarlet Knights. By the way, the game was played on Summet Court. Homecooking? I say GOOD CALL!
How about Orlando Magic coach Stan Van Gundy calling out his franchise player (Dewight Howard) through the media? This could get ugly. We'll see what kind of person Howard is now. He has every right to be upset at how Van Gundy handled this situation, but he could shut every one up by playing even better and doing what his coached said he was not doing. Or he could pout like a spoiled NBA player and want a trade. I have a feeling he will come out of this situation a better player. Stan Van Gundy might be correct about Howard's play, but I think he should of pulled his star aside and had a chat, not through the media. By the way, is he Harry Reems twin? I say BAD CALL!
Bobby Knight wearing an officials jersey on Jay Leno. I thought it was typical Bob Knight trying to be funny and show a different side of himself. He is known for giving the officials a hard time, so I thought it was funny. He is a great person and people are still going to knit-pick everything he does. I say GOOD CALL!
Larry Hughes scoring 40 points last night. I have to believe that the old saying about even the sun shines on a dogs ass every now and then rings true with Hughes scoring 40. I wish I am wrong, but as an avid Cavs fan, I can't get my hopes up. The only thing I can think that could happen positively from this for Cavs fans is that Hughes continues to play well so his trade value goes up. I say BAD CALL!
Johan Santana being signed by the Mets for mega millions. Some would say this is good news for the Indians because he moves to the National League. Look at his record versus the Indians anyways, it wasn't good at all. As a true Cleveland Indian fan I think it is devistating because now we will never be able to sign C.C. Sabathia. C.C. will definately want Santana type money in order to re-sign him and all of us Indian fans know that Cleveland wont offer near that much to keep him. I say BAD CALL!

Jimmie Johnson Takes the Poll for Nascar's Biggest Race

Jimmie Johnson took the pool for the 2008 running of the Daytona 500 Sunday afternoon. Less than 24 hours ago his teammate, Dale Earnhardt Jr., edged Tony Stewart to win the Budweiser Shootout. This will mark the 50th running of the superbowl of racing. With all of the drivers qualifying today, only the top two are set for Sunday's race. A lot of the fans don't know that or understand that. The other driver that has punched his ticket for the race is Michael Waltrip. He was the first of many of the Toyato cars that ran really well. If fans remember well enough, Toyota was almost a joke last year. Starting with Michael Waltrip himself after the 500 inspection revealed that they used an illegal fuel.
So, the only spots taken for Sunday's race is the first row with Jimmie Johnson who qualified 1st with a speed of 187 mph and Michael Waltrip 2nd with a speed of 186 mph. The rest of the field will be decided in two 150 mile races on Thursday.
I think that everyone thought that Hendrick Motorsports would do fine this year, especially after Jr.'s win last night, but no one expected Toyota to show as well as they have this early on!

Dale Earnhardt Wins the Budweiser Shootout

Is this a sign of things to come for Jr.? I hope so. The race was a heck of a lot more exciting with Jr. in contention from start to finish. It was good to see him battle Tony Stewart and Jimmie Johnson. The best part of the entire Budweiser Shootout was the total domination of the Hendrix Motorsports Team throughout the race. I would say they put a rest to the rumors that they could not exist together. They being Jeff Gordan, Jimmie Johnson, Casey Mears, and Dale Earnhardt Jr. Jimmie Johnson showed his true colors by pushing Jr. to the front past Stewart on the final few laps. It was great to see Jr. happy and the huge weight released off of his shoulders. Take that Teressa!

Remember, this race didn't count towards Nascar's points, so we'll see how nice the teammates are when it counts.
