Mario Super Sluggers brought some of the funnest baseball action to a video game console when it released on August 25, 2008. The sequel to Mario Superstar Baseball on the GameCube, Mario Super Sluggers took the crazy action on the diamond up another couple of notches and delivered an exquisite sequel. The game only got a 69/100 on Metacritic, but something about the number of characters and stages that you could play, combined with the faster pace of the baseball action compared to real life baseball, made this game a personal favorite in my household when I was in middle school. My brother and I would play this game for hours on end during the summer. Each character had his or her own personal way of hitting and pitching, combined with crazy skills that fit their personalities and past traits in the Mushroom Kingdom. Like a lot of Mario's sports games, Mario Super Sluggers felt like a celebration of everything related to Mario's other games, just through the avenue of playing baseball. Where is the next Mario baseball game? The series is a cult classic. Baseball is one of the most popular sports in both the United States and Japan, the latter of which is Nintendo's home country. There needs to be another one of these games on the Switch 2. We all know how much Nintendo loves Mario's sports games. There has already been Mario Tennis Fever this year, but tennis has been an overdone sport for Mario. It's overdue to go back to the diamond. The only connection we have between Mario and baseball right now is through the Seattle Mariners. Nintendo has an ownership stake in that team, so the cross promotion between the two has been fun, but it's not like getting a new video game. Maybe Julio Rodriguez can help encourage things!
