College Football Power Rankings - Week 5

The Bucks drop a spot after last weekends performance!
RK (LW) TEAM REC PTS COMMENT
1 (1) Alabama (20) 5-0 500 Alabama fans would have been hard-pressed to envision a more comprehensive and convincing win. In truth, 31-6 probably flattered Florida, as the Tide thoroughly dominated the Gators to distinguish themselves as the cream of the SEC and the nation.
2 (4) Oregon 5-0 472 Stanford took the fight to Oregon early but the Ducks responded with a second-half flurry that swept aside the Cardinal and established the Ducks as the class of the Pac-10, leapfrogging Boise State for the No. 3 spot in the AP Top 25 in the process.
3 (2) Ohio State 5-0 458 Ohio State won its eighth straight at Illinois but it was not without its nervous moments. Terrelle Pryor left the game momentarily with a minor injury before returning to help cap off a 24-13. Jim Tressel improved to 9-1 in Big Ten openers at OSU.
4 (3) Boise State 4-0 447 A WAC opener in the form of a visit to New Mexico State meant Boise State was relegated to the back pages in Week 5. There wasn't much to report as the Broncos steamrolled to a 59-0 win, their 15th straight road victory.
5 (5) TCU 5-0 412 TCU's only trip outside the state of Texas in its first eight games was an uncomfortable adventure, for a half at least. The Horned Frogs turned it on in the second half, turning a 6-0 lead at the break into a 27-0 win at Colorado State.
6 (7) Oklahoma 5-0 392 Oklahoma was dangerously close to letting Texas stage a remarkable comeback but the Sooners managed to hold on to a 28-20 win in the Red River Rivalry. It ended a skid of four losses in five games to the Longhorns in Dallas.
7 (6) Nebraska 4-0 391 Nebraska took the weekend off to prepare for its Big 12 opener on Thursday night at Kansas State (ESPN, 7:30 ET) in a battle of 4-0 teams.
8 (10) Auburn 5-0 359 A 52-3 win over Louisiana-Monroe improved the Tigers to 16-0 against Sun Belt teams. More important for Auburn is avoiding last year's late-season swoon in which it followed a 5-0 start by losing five of its remaining seven regular-season games.
9 (12) Arizona 4-0 324 Arizona was off this week and was surely among the more interested observers of Oregon's win over Stanford. The Pac-10's other remaining unbeaten team doesn't face the Ducks until Nov. 26. The Wildcats host the other Oregon team on Saturday.
10 (13) Utah 4-0 279 Utah was another team that was off this week that also benefited from some of the turnover in the top 10. The Utes return to action on Saturday at Iowa State.
11 (14) Miami (FL) 3-1 274 Miami displayed its tantalizing potential as well as its infuriating faults in a road win at Clemson. The Hurricanes forced six turnovers but Jacory Harris also threw two away, giving him eight INTs for the season. A visit from Florida State is next.
12 (9) Stanford 4-1 268 Stanford was enjoying heady times after ascending to its highest ranking since 1992. It lasted for about one half in Eugene, Ore. That's when the Ducks turned loose on the Cardinal, sending them to a 52-31 loss. They host USC on Saturday.
13 (16) Arkansas 3-1 265 Arkansas had a week off to regroup following its loss to Alabama. The Razorbacks are back in action this weekend against Texas A&M at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
14 (17) Iowa 4-1 241 That's the kind of defensive performance Iowa fans are used to. The Hawkeyes put the screws on Penn State in a 24-3 win. They enter a bye week with two weeks to prepare for a trip to Michigan.
15 (8) Florida 4-1 217 Florida's 16-game SEC regular-season winning streak crumbled under the weight of Alabama's all-out attack. The Gators will turn their attention to the SEC East race, beginning with a visit from LSU on Saturday.
16 (22) Michigan State 5-0 216 Doctor's orders kept Mark Dantonio from joining his team for another week but he had to like what he saw in a 34-24 win over Wisconsin. The Spartans overcame three first-half turnovers, setting up a pivotal in-state matchup at Michigan on Saturday.
17 (20) Michigan 5-0 186 It's becoming harder to find the superlatives to do Denard Robinson justice. He registered 200 yards passing and 200 yards rushing for the second time in his career. The only other person to earn that distinction? Some guy named Vince Young.
18 (15) LSU 5-0 179 A rematch of the 2007 SEC championship didn't exactly bring to mind SEC greatness. Just when it seemed Tennessee was going to earn its first SEC win, bizarre circumstances shocked the Vols and kept the Tigers unbeaten.
19 (19) South Carolina 3-1 161 South Carolina was off this week and is probably hoping Alabama's dismantling of Florida was not an indication of what's to come for the Gamecocks when the Tide visit on Saturday.
20 (11) Wisconsin 4-1 98 Wisconsin had hopes of challenging for a Big Ten title this season and while a league-opening loss to Michigan State doesn't end those hopes by any stretch, it's a disappointing start for the Badgers. They'll look to rebound against Minnesota on Saturday.
21 (23) Nevada 5-0 93 Nevada lived to see another week in the Top 25 as the Wolf Pack improved upon their best start since becoming an FBS team in 1992 with a 44-26 win over UNLV.
22 (25) Florida State 4-1 85 Florida State rebounded from its Week 2 loss at Oklahoma about as well as Seminoles fans could have expected. They've won three straight, scoring more than 30 points in each of those games and allowing just 24 total points.
23 (30) Oklahoma State 4-0 69 One of Week 5's most exciting games took place on Thursday night as Oklahoma State rallied, then withstood a rally in a 38-35 win over Texas A&M.
24 (29) Air Force 4-1 34 Air Force earned its first win over Navy since 2002 and entered the AP Top 25 this week. The Falcons' only loss came 27-24 at Oklahoma and they're off to a 2-0 start in MWC play.
25 (28) Missouri 4-0 24 Missouri gained entry into this week's power rankings without even having to take the field. The Tigers were off this week and begin Big 12 play on Saturday against Colorado.

Moeller Done for Year
Ohio State senior safety-linebacker Tyler Moeller will undergo season-ending surgery this week to repair a torn pectoral muscle, according to a source with knowledge of the situation.
Moeller suffered the injury in the first quarter of Saturday's road win against Illinois. MRI results on Monday revealed the tear.
Moeller, who played the "star" position in Ohio State's often-used nickel package, leads the team in both tackles for loss with 4.5 and forced fumbles with 2. He has 20 tackles, a sack and an interception.
Moeller already had planned to petition the NCAA for a sixth year of eligibility after missing the entire 2009 season with a head injury he suffered as the victim of an assault in a Florida bar and restaurant in July 2009. If his petition is successful, Moeller will return to the Buckeyes for spring football in 2011.
