NBA
Kwame Brown
NBA
Memphis Grizzlies
Annual salary: $8.3 million
2007-08 statistics:
Minutes per game: 13.6
Points per game: 3.5

National Basketball Association
Detroit Pistons
Annual salary: $12 million
2007-08 statistics:
Minutes per game: 13.9
Points per game: 3.0
Rebounds per game: 3.1
The Pistons obtained Ratliff from Minnesota earlier this season, enduring his outsized contract for help during their playoff push. The Pistons fell short of the championship round, though his expiring contract means there's more cash to go after other players with.

Raef LaFrentz

Portland Trail Blazer
Annual salary: $9.9 million
2007-08 statistics:
Minutes per game: 7.5
Points per game: 1.7

Minutes per game: 9.4

Foyle signed a six-year, $51.2 million contract with Golden State in 2004, despite never having averaged more than 5.9 points a game in his career. He's averaged only 18 minutes a game over 11 seasons.

Kenny Thomas
NBA
Sacramento Kings
Annual salary: $7.1 million
2007-08 statistics:
Minutes per game: 12.2

Thomas' seven-year, $50 million deal runs through 2010. He got the contract after averaging 10 points and eight rebounds for the Rockets and 76ers in 2002-03. Oye.

NFL
Chad Pennington
National Football League
Quarterback
New York Jets
2007-08 salary: $7 million
Games started: 8
Touchdown passes: 10
Interceptions: 9
Arm injuries have helped limit Pennington to one full 16-game season since breaking in with the Jets in 2000. He enters 2008 second on the depth chart to youngster Kellen Clemens.

Kabeer Gbaja-Biamila
NFL
Defensive End
Green Bay Packers
2007-08 cap value: $6.6 million
Games started: 2
Tackles: 26
Quarterback sacks: 9.5
A full-time starter for four years, Gbaja-Biamila has been mostly reduced to being a pass rushing specialist.

LaMont Jordan
NFL
Running Back
Oakland Raiders
2007-08 cap value: $5.4 million
Games started: 7
Yards per carry: 3.8
Touchdowns: 3
Impressive in part-time duty with the Jets a few years ago, Jordan cashed in with a big free agent deal with the Raiders in 2005. He's been mostly a flop by the Bay, averaging just 669 yards per season on less than four yards a carry.

David Barrett
NFL
Cornerback
New York Jets
2007-08 cap value: $4.4 million
Games started: 9
Interceptions: 1
Tackles: 63
The high-priced defensive back has started only 20 of a possible 48 games over the past three years. The Jets list him as a backup for the upcoming season.

Visanthe Shiancoe
NFL
Tight End
Minnesota Vikings
2007-08 cap value: $4.2 million
Games started: 15
Passes caught: 27
Touchdowns: 1
Minnesota thought enough of Shiancoe during his four years as a part timer for the New York Giants to ink him to a big contract that included a $5 million signing bonus. Shiancoe started 15 of 16 games last season, but caught only 27 passes for 323 years. He's listed as the No. 2 tight end this pre-season, behind 10-year veteran Jimmy Kleinasser.
